How do I find a lesson? |
Use the Index button on the left to locate your
lesson.
|
How do I navigate the lessons?
|
Use the gear-shaped buttons at the very top of the
page. They will take you to the various sections inside each
lesson. Some of those will present another menu for you to
choose individual slides, games and other exercises.
|
How do I print my assessment answers? |
Before you start taking the assessment quiz go to
the control panel on the top right and type in your name.
After you complete your assessment open the control panel again
and click on the print option. Your name will be printed out
on top of your assessment.
|
Why can’t I hear the lessons?
|
First of all, check the volume on your computer. It usually can be turned up in your control panels. If you have speakers connected to your computer, be sure they are on, and the volume is turned up. If there are headphones plugged into your computer, unplug them.
If you can hear sound effects but not voiceovers, go to the CONTROLS panel, and click the sound button at the bottom right until you see ENGLISH appear in the text field. This works best if you choose your sound options before you choose the slides you want to play. If you have tried the above steps, and you can’t hear sound in other applications on your computer, then the problem may be with your sound card or operating system
|
What grades is StarrMatica appropriate for?
|
StarrMatica’s lessons are designed for students in 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. Instructional slides are equipped with voiceovers, making concepts understandable for students in 3rd grade through 6th grade. Our online Lesson Manual lists grade level equivalencies for each lesson’s practice elements.
|
What kind of browser do I need to view StarrMatica’s lessons?
|
For PC users, use IE 6.x, and NS 6.x, and Firefox 1.0 (and higher) are all compatible and recommended browsers.
For Mac users, Internet Explorer 6.x (or higher) is recommended for optimal performance. The minimum browser requirements are Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher or Netscape version 6.x or higher.
If you are using Mac OS 9.x or earlier, you may have to allocate more memory to your web browser if the installer does not do it for you. To do this, quit the browser, and select the application's icon in the Finder. Go to the File Menu, and select Get Info. In the Memory section of the window that appears, increase the Preferred Size to at least 25,000 KB, more if your computer has enough RAM. (You can see how much free RAM is available by selecting ABOUT THIS COMPUTER from the Apple Menu while the Finder is the front-most application.) Then re-launch your browser.
|
I downloaded the Flash Plug-in, so why can’t I see the lessons?
|
Go into your browser’s settings or preferences, and clear your cache. Then re-launch your browser.
If the problem still persists, quit the browser. Locate the Plug-ins folder inside your browser’s application folder. You can use FIND and search for “Plugins” to locate the folder. Remove and trash the following plug-in files from your Plug-ins folder:
Macintosh Users
ShockwavePlugin.class
Shockwave Flash NP-PPC
PC Users
ShockwavePlugin
ShockwaveFlash.class
Run the Shockwave installer again, selecting which browser to install to.
If you are using a Macintosh (OS 9 or below), you may need to allocate more RAM to your Macintosh web browser.

My lessons are acting strange, what is wrong?
|
Sometimes, if you don't allow a slide to load
completely before changing over to another one it can cause the
interface to flash. To fix this, simply be sure you are
allowing the slide you are viewing to load before clicking away
from it.
Sometimes Flash can run slow on some computers. Maybe you
have too may other applications running or maybe your computer has
low processing power. The simplest solution to this would be
to reboot your computer to clear all the extra tasks running and
then try again. Another solution is to pull up your task
manager and turn extra tasks off one by one.
This is not an all encompassing list of possible issues that
could arise, but the majority of issues are related to the ones
above and the actions requested will take care of them. If
you continue to experience trouble, please contact us for
assistance.
