Springboard Activity

Here's another idea for using StarrMatica's activities and resources as a springboard for traditional classroom activities. As a whole class, complete StarrMatica's Swat Team activity found in the Practice Section of Geometry II. Then, have your students create their own ordered pairs stories. In their stories, have the students include locations (ordered pairs) on the coordinate plane where objects are located. Finally, have the students create answer keys for their narrations. Visit StarMatica's Blog, The Interactive Content Corner, to read more about this and other ideas for using interactive websites in the classroom.

Website Spotlight

Read the Words.com (http://www.readthewords.com) allows users to paste text into a box and choose one of fifteen virtual readers to read the text aloud. (Note: Each reader has a unique voice, and some have accents or speak in different languages.) You can control the reader's speed and pitch, and the audio can be listened to online, downloaded to an mp3 player, or posted on a website. In approximately one minute, you can generate an hour long recording! The website also contains ideas for practical classroom uses of the application.
